Half Dexter Beef - Deposit Only
Initial deposit to reserve the animal is required up front including the signing of a Sale of Goods contract. Deposit price includes the purchase of the animal (if we do not currently own it and need to located one to purchase), the price of feed to finish the animal, and the price of fuel to transport the animal. The final price will not be calculated until the animal is processed and final weight is confirmed. Dos Lobos Ranch, LLC covers the cost of processing upfront and recovers the cost when the customer picks up their side of beef. Current pricing is $8/lb for half and whole beef (minus the deposit).
Why Dexter beef?
We raise Dexter beef, a small, heritage breed of cattle that is gentle-natured and finishes well on grass alone. There is no need for grain inputs here! In fact, many Dexter breeders say that feeding grain to beef cuts the flavor too much. Dexters are a slower-growing breed and it takes 1.5 years for a calf to reach market weight, 2 years or longer if you want it to be well-marbled. We aim for 2 years of age when growing out our steers, and in our opinion, it is well worth the wait for this very tasty breed of beef! Any steers born on our ranch are raised free of antibiotics, growth hormone injections, and vaccinations. We love our Dexters and we love the rich and flavorful meat that they provide, and we hope you will, too!
