Our Story

Hi! Welcome to Dos Lobos Ranch (Spanish for Two Wolves)! We're just a couple of foodie rebels and meat snobs who started raising pastured meats because we were tired of a food system that disregards honest farming practices and instead depletes the soil and animals of nutritional content in the name of the almighty dollar (and for meat that doesn't taste all that great, to be honest). So we decided to try something new and different on our own -- we took the gamble and started a farm and didn't know what to expect. We are committed to corn and soy free (our pork and chicken are fed a peanut and milo based feed, milled locally), no antibiotics, no hormones, grass fed, grass finished beef, and pastured raised meat and eggs! Not only were we pleasantly surprised when we tried our first batch of meat, we were absolutely blown away by the flavor, texture, and juiciness! 

And then... we were hooked!

We spent our first year (2023) experimenting with different breeds of chicken and pork and settled on Freedom Ranger broiler chickens and Kunekune pork, a breed of pig from New Zealand that was almost extinct in the 1960's and was resuscitated with only 9 breeding pigs left!  After sampling meat from these breeds of chicken and pigs, there was no way we were going with anything else!  Throw in some Dexter beef that we traded with a friend pound for pound with some of our pork, and then our Dexter cattle herd was added to the ranch!  In late 2024, we had our Dexter herd genetically tested for tenderness and marbling (yes, that's a thing!) and while we have some tender meat producers across our entire herd, there are still improvements to be made.  It's not prime beef, but it is a nicely tender, choice cut that's grass fed and grass finished.  We will certainly be looking out for better genetics for our herd to produce outstanding beef!

Other improvements we have made to our property to fully embrace regenerative ranching not only includes rotational grazing of our animals (weather permitting... it gets HOT in Texas!), but we've also planted cover crops for added diversity and nutrition for our soil and our animals, and have begun contracting a local organic fertilizer company to spray our pastures with a fish emulsion, sea kelp, and molasses blend.  It will be a couple of years-long process, but we will eventually get to a point of sustainability by using this fertilizer and these grazing methods to improve our soil health, animal health, and human health by the meat we produce!

You can find us at the Argyle Tx Farmer's Market and Downtown Sanger Farmer's Market three weekends each month!  We bring 50lbs of meat with us and come close to selling out each time, so if you want to get your hands on some of the goods, order online ahead of time and we can bring your order to one of the farmer's markets!
